Dr. Ernst Kiesling is a renowned authority in the field of storm shelter research, with 48 years of teaching, research, administration and public service in his career at Texas Tech University. He leads the storm shelter research effort within the Wind Science and Engineering Research Center at Texas Tech, and, along with colleagues, has developed the Safe Room, an above ground storm shelter. Dr. Kiesling serves on the International Code Council (ICC) Committee and was instrumental in founding the National Storm Shelter Association (NSSA), a non-profit trade organization. Dr. Kiesling was awarded a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Technological College, an M.S. in Applied Mechanics from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics, also from Michigan State.
